automatic fluid Ford If its a standard you don't put tranny fluid in it!! Lord have mercy if you are talkin about putting somethin in the clutch reservior it should plainly say DOT 3 which is brake fluid. If you put tranny fluid in that its gonna eat up the seals and you will have to replace the slave cylinder and the clutchmaster!! YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT Transmission Fluid IN A STANDARD!! Granted.... But there is a transmission that is sealed an NORMALLY wouldn't need any kind of oil. HOwever, due to circumstances, that transmission has been damaged and the oil has leaked, I have a new transmission with nothing. I can't seem to find any information on what goes into that...

If the manual shift light on your 1991 Mercury Capri is flashing, it may indicate that the transmission is not shifting properly or that you're operating in a gear that isn't optimal for your speed. First, check the transmission fluid level and condition, as low or dirty fluid can cause shifting issues. If the fluid is fine, consider inspecting the shift linkage and transmission sensors. If you're unable to resolve the issue, consulting a mechanic for a thorough diagnosis may be necessary.
The Mercury Sable transmission has a fluid capacity of 12 quarts. You can use any SAE certified automatic transmission fluid.
For a 1991 Mercury Capri, it's generally recommended to change the transmission fluid every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, or every 2 to 3 years, depending on driving conditions. However, if you frequently drive in harsh conditions, such as heavy traffic or towing, you may want to change it more often. Always check the owner's manual for specific guidelines and recommendations for your vehicle. Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal transmission performance and longevity.
