I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota 3.6L V6 with 262,000 km. Mine was sputtering, or sometimes not starting at all. I first noticed the symptom at idles when i went from a stop to go.

I looked underneath the air filter at the distributor cap , I took off the middle cable and a bunch of calcium fell out. I noticed there was pretty well no metal connector on the inside of the rubber spark cable connector end. I replaced the cable with a new one, and all of a sudden everything worked, and I was no longer getting an intermittent "Check Engine" light.
