My 1995 Explorer almost stalled at a stop ( same engine - 4.0 L - OHV ) it shook , the RPM dropped . What I did that worked for me was I disconnected both battery cables and left them off while I cleaned up the battery terminals / cable ends and then put the cables back on and let it relearn its idle . I still ocasionally get a little bit of a stumble when the engine is good and warm and I stop for a red light , but no where near almost stalling . What I like is the fact it didn't cost me anything but some time. Try that and see if it works for you ( P.S. - I also had to reset the preset radio stations and the clock after disconnecting the battery cables )
