You can fit up to a 502 Big Block if you really wanted too. The biggest problem being that this is a 1984 is the emissions part of this. I own a 1984 old 98 regency I think its the elite edition with the leather. Anways it has a 5.0L V8 in it and the room is there just working around the computer aspec it the real issue. If you find a matching motor with computer if that's the way your going your set to go as long as you meet emission laws for your state.

On a 1984 Oldsmobile Regency, the starter is located on the passenger side of the engine, near the bottom, where the engine and transmission meet. It is mounted to the bell housing and connected to the battery and ignition system. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any components that obstruct its view.

If your car is that old and you aren't trying to restore it for a collection you probably should get a new car

To remove the heater core from a 1984 Oldsmobile 98 Regency, first, disconnect the battery and drain the coolant from the radiator. Next, remove the dashboard and any necessary components to access the heater core housing. Disconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses from the engine compartment, then unbolt and carefully remove the heater core from its housing. Finally, reverse the process for installation, ensuring all connections are sealed properly to prevent leaks.
To replace the water pump on a 1984 Oldsmobile Regency 98 with a 5.0L 307 motor, start by disconnecting the battery and draining the coolant from the radiator. Remove the serpentine belt and any components obstructing access to the water pump, such as the fan shroud. Unscrew the water pump bolts, carefully remove the old pump, clean the mounting surface, and install the new pump with a new gasket. Finally, reassemble everything, refill the coolant, and check for leaks.
