I had a Toyota Camry (1985) that was always doing this. Taking it in to the the shop never resolved anything. While visiting family in Illinois, I got to talking about my problem of the stalling while I was running fine on the highway and my Brother (who worked for Dodge) asked me if I ever topped off the fuel. The answer was "yes" I used to overfill to get as much gas in there as possible. He told me that there is a vacumn near the mouth of the fuel tank and when you put too much gas in the tank you are interrupting the vacumn. I stopped doing that and never had a problem with it cutting off again. I had my faithful little Camry for 18 years and NEVER had to put any money into it except for regular maintenance. MaryAnne, SC
it is ok to continue driving the vehicle while the catalytic converter is not working properly?
Creates excess hydrocarbon emissions.
If a car is sputtering at low speeds when driving one thing it could be is a clogged fuel filter. Another possibility is the catalytic converter could need replaced.
possibly a clogged catalytic converter
A plugged catalytic converter could be the culprit.
destroy the catalytic converter
Dirty fuel/air filter. Plugged/damaged catalytic converter.
To replace the catalytic converter on a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, start by safely lifting the vehicle and securing it with jack stands. Disconnect the exhaust pipes from the catalytic converter using a wrench, and unbolt the converter from its mounting points. Remove the old catalytic converter and install the new one, ensuring a proper fit and sealing any joints with exhaust gasket material if needed. Finally, reconnect the exhaust pipes and lower the vehicle, checking for leaks before driving.
yes and its illegal if your car goes through emissions
A bad catalytic converter and stopped up muffler will slow down the car. The catalytic converter is under warranty up to 84,000 miles, if defective. If you ran over a speed bump and damaged it, you have to replace it. You can buy a lower catalytic converter for $120 from advance auto parts.
Catalytic converter. 9 out of 10 times when a car runs fin cool and stalls when warm, this is the problem.
Most cars won't even run is the converter is clogged. Clogged converters can get very hot, maybe even start fires.
