To remove the steering column from a Subaru Legacy, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues. Then, remove the steering wheel by taking off the center cover and unscrewing the retaining nut. Next, disconnect any wiring harnesses and remove the bolts securing the column to the dashboard and firewall. Finally, carefully pull the steering column out from its mounting position.
First you have to remove the panel from the bottom of the dash board to be able to get to the steering column bolts. Then, disconnect all of the wiring harnesses from the steering column. After this, go underneath the truck and disconnect the shifter linkage from the transmission. You can then remove the four bolts that hold the column up. Then, carefully slide the column out. Once the shifter linkage is against the firewall, rotate the column until you can pull the linkage through the opening in the firewall.

Finally, reconnect the battery and test the new switch.
Remove the lower dash panel and steering column cover. Disconnect all harnesses going to the column. There is a metal bracket attached to the steering column with brass-colored bolts, and attached to the underside of the dash with chrome-colored bolts. Remove only the chrome bolts. They're fairly long. Once completely removed, the entire steering column will drop slightly. Now pull back the plastic boot from the bottom of the steering column and look for the small bolt securing it in place. I believe it is 11mm. Loosen the bolt only enough for the column to slide out.

Next, detach the steering column from the dashboard and remove any necessary trim pieces to access the bearing. Once exposed, pull out the old bearing and press in the new one, ensuring it is properly seated. Reassemble the steering column and reconnect the battery, making sure all components are securely fastened.
