Engine control unit. (engine computer).
Yes. Remove your radio and look on top of the heater box. Should see a silver box.
Have to wait for it to cool off? Probably ECU. Located behind washer fluid on firewall. GL
To replace the ECU on a 1988 Jeep Wrangler, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts. Locate the ECU, which is typically found under the passenger side dashboard or in the engine compartment, and remove any mounting screws or clips. Disconnect the wiring harness from the ECU and carefully remove the old unit. Install the new ECU by reversing the steps, ensuring all connections are secure before reconnecting the battery.
The "Coolant Sensor", for the ECU, is right next to the water neck at the front of the engine. the "Coolant sender", for the temperature guage, should be on the back of the head at the rear of the engine!
The ECU on your Cherokee should be located on the inner fender under your hood on the driver side.
absolutely not. not without some kind of mods and all of the wiring harnesses and computers. also the tranny would have to go with the motor as the ECU must connect to both the tranny and engine to function properly.
under the hood theres the fuse box near the battery open it the ecu is number 1 i think not sure check manual disconnect battery then pull fuse replace
replace ECU with identical ECU
