It must be unbolted from the engine flex-plate (flywheel) then correctly installed into the replacement transmission. Failure to install the torque converter correctly will result in expensive damage to the transmission.
First unplug the wire harness from the switch. Using the correct size socket (1" if I remember correctly) remove the switch counterclockwise from the transmission. Install the new one in reverse order.

It is done at the transmission, Drain plug on bottom and fill plug on top side. Fill until lube comes out the fill hole. Make sure you install the correct lube. Some manual transmission Rangers use A/T fluid and some use a manual transmission lube. Check your owner's manual for the correct application.
