The computer is located under the hood , above the battery, adjacent to the cowl. It is hard to miss. It has a "finned" metal case and should have a white factory sticker that has the part number printed on it.
Inside the distriburetor, it's the thing with all the wires going to it.

The module is located behind the Rotor Arm assembly in the distributor itself. You have to remove the Distributor Cap, then the Rotor Arm and the module is there.

There is no ignition module on a 1987 5th ave. The spark control computer is on the air cleaner with a vacuum line hooked to it.

Check the ECM Electronic Control Module, under the distributor cap If its bad sometimes it wont start or it will and then die
5.5mm bolts are the kind of bolts that hold the ignition control module in a 1987 Ranger 2.3L. However, 5.0mm bolts may also work.
