I just recently purchased a 2005 focus. My Airbag readyness light came on last night (12/25/11)......Merry X-mas! Spent 3 hours at the dealer today and spent $100 for a diagnostic which had them all scratching their heads. They believe it to be either the control module or something in the passenger seat wiring. They said worst case scenario would be $1000 and would need the car 2-3 days. I came home today and decided to fnd out where the module is myself. You can hand pop the plastic trim off around the shift handle. Once you do that, between it and the emergency brake you will see the module bolted down. To remove, pull out the rubber cup holders......you will see 2 screws. Then....behind the emergency brake, you will see a plastic plug covering a 3rd screw. Remove those 3 and you should be able to lift the console up enough to access. Hope that helps! Marshall!.....marshman1963@aol.com
