I believe it is to the left of the air filter ( looking from the front of the vehicle )
You can find the dipstick for the transmission on a Polaris sportsman 500 HO 2005 near the back of the transmission on the engine in a tight area.
The oil that lubricates the motor also lubricates the transmission, so there is no dipstick for the transmission. There is only a sightglass on the right side by the foot peg.

According to the 2007 Ford Five Hundred Owner Guide : ( 20.0 U.S. gallons )
To check the transmission oil in a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off. Locate the transmission oil dipstick, which is typically found near the rear of the engine case. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it without screwing it in, and then remove it again to check the oil level. The oil should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks; if it's low, add the appropriate transmission oil as specified in the owner's manual.
You add transmission fluid at the exact same place you check the fluid level. Do not overfill!
For the ( 6 ) speed automatic transmission it is by the engine air filter housing according to the picture in the Owner Guide
