To change the tail light on a 1999 Mercury Villager, first, open the rear hatch and locate the tail light assembly. Remove the screws or clips securing the assembly, then gently pull it out from the vehicle. Disconnect the wiring harness and replace the old bulb with a new one by twisting it counterclockwise. Reassemble the tail light by reconnecting the wiring, securing the assembly with screws or clips, and testing the new bulb before closing the hatch.
