Find you air filter box, follow the black tube that comes out of it. where the black tube meets the engine is the throttle body. Look at the top and back of the throttle body, you will see black thing that is attached to the throttle body there are 2 star head screws holding this to the throttle body and a plug on the top of it. That's the IAC valve and the black thing directly below the IAC that also has an electrical plug going to it is the TPS or throttle positioning sensor. Both are very fun to remove and replace. Enjoy!

Why does your Chevy Venture van only start by pressing gas?

Most likely it is the IAC (idle air control) valve. They sometimes will stick open or closed, giving you high idle speeds or no idle at all. Less likely could be a throttle position sensor, but they usually cause a check engine light too.

How do you replace an idle air control valve on a 1993 GM safari van?

The idle air control valve is located on the back of the throttle body. It has an oval electrical connector and two torx screws holding it in. Unplug the connector, remove the two screws then lightly tap the body with a soft faced mallet to loosen it from the body. Once you have it out and prior to installing a new valve clean the seat inside the throttle body where the idle control fits. This must be very clean! Installation is in the reverse order. Btw, to save some cash, pull the valve out and clean it, this usually fixes the problem for quite a while.

Where is the idle control on a 2001 Chevy Express van?

On a 2001 Chevy Express van, the idle air control (IAC) valve is typically located on the throttle body, which is mounted on the intake manifold. It is a small cylindrical component with an electrical connector and is usually secured by two screws. To access it, you may need to remove the air intake duct. It's important to ensure the engine is off and cool before attempting any work on it.

1997 E150 with 351 motor will not idle-runs but only if you keep foot on gas Any Ideas?

Well I figured it out myself, it was the idle air control valve. I replaced that and the van runs better than it has since we have owned it. I love it when things work out like that. So if your vehicle will only run if you are giving it some gas at all times, try the IAC valve. $45.00 at Autozone.
