A 1999 Dodge Ram transmission does not have an input speed sensor.
More than likely, its your input and output speed sensor, If your speedo does not work, I can guarantee that is your problem..
If a transmission speed sensor fails, the transmission will default to second gear.
The input sensor reads the speed of the transmission input shaft. The output sensor reads the speed of the transmission output shaft. The transmission computer uses these sensors to help time the shifts, and to run the speedometer. The input sensor reads the speed of the transmission input shaft. The output sensor reads the speed of the transmission output shaft. The transmission computer uses these sensors to help time the shifts, and to run the speedometer.
The three sensors are [input sensors] that are wired to the Transmission Controller to give speed information to the Controller for proper shift points,[up-shifts-down shifts Input Turbine Speed.... Output Turbine Speed.. Vehicle Speed sensor...
The vehicle speed signal comes from the transmission output speed sensor.
There are two speed sensors on a 1996 Dodge Avenger, an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor. Both are located on the front of the transmission.
