Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. There are 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing to the intake manifold. Take the housing off and change the thermostat. But don't forget to drain the antifreeze first! chiefy98clg@Yahoo.com I have a 2004 Chevy pickup with a 5.3 engine, if you follow the upper hose to the engine, there is like a pipe coming out of the engine, pointing up, and the upper hose connects to that pipe, for lack of a better way to put it. There are no bolts there. I had a Corvette with a 327 in it years ago, the above statement is true to how the Corvettes upper hose was, but not a 2004 pickup with a 5.3L. NEW ANSWER: Follow the lower radiator hose to the water pump and it will clamp onto the thermostat housing. Remove the 2 bolts on it and you will see the thermostat .
