Inside the rear of the alternator
defective voltage regulator
voltage regulator on 1987 ford f250
I/C Regulator built inside alternator.
voltage regulator is old school , alternators use diodes now and they are built into the back of the alternator to regulate charging , you will need to change out the whole alternator.
The voltage regulator is in the alternator.
would it be my voltage regulator or a wiring problem
Yes , I'm not a mechanic / technician but i believe the voltage regulator is on the back of the alternator I am a mechanic / technician at ford and first answer is kinda correct... It's internal to the alternator. If suspecting a regulator issue replace the entire unit as a whole. No other components to mess with. Good luck.
On a 2001 Ford F-250 diesel, the voltage regulator is integrated into the alternator. To access it, you'll need to remove the alternator from the engine bay, as it is not a separate component. Once the alternator is removed, the internal regulator can be accessed for testing or replacement if needed.
