10W30 is.
Correction...
It really depends what you are asking. Actually at operating engine temp these two oils are identical. The 5W30 flows better in the cold than the 10W30 oil. The benefit of the 5W30 oil is its' ability to build oil pressure and protect the engine under cold operating conditions. Basically a 5W30 oil covers a wider range of temperatures than a 10W30 oil and is better suited for year round use where climates can shift from extreme colds to extreme highs.
10w30 is thicker than 5w20
20W50 is the " thicker " oil
15W40
10w40 is thicker (but only when hot, they are the same thickness cold.)
The weight of the oil when it is cold. The 15w is a thicker oil than the 10w when it is cold.
15w40 is thicker at all temps vs 10w30.
Yes, 10W30 motor oil is thicker than 5W30 motor oil at higher temperatures. The first number in the oil designation (the "W" stands for winter) indicates the oil's viscosity at low temperatures, meaning 5W30 is thinner in colder conditions compared to 10W30. However, both oils have the same viscosity at operating temperatures (30), meaning they perform similarly once the engine is warmed up.
what type of oil should i change for Nissan sentra 2006 Normally 10W30 or 10W40 is good thicker for older cars 10W40 is thicker FYI
Yes.
wouldnt advise it 10 40 semi synth or a thicker oil as it gets older
More than likely 10w30. Check your owners manual or call a Chevy dealer to be sure. Sometimes it is written on the oil cap. The factory specifies 5w30..in cold climates it helps the oil to flow better. In warm or hot weather 10w30 is acceptable..but under NO conditions should the 2.4 engine use any thicker oil..thicker would be 10w40.. 20w50 etc.
