On a 1996 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine is rated at ( 145 horsepower ) The 3.0 liter " Duratec " DOHC , V6 engine is rated at ( 200 horsepower )
Either the 3.0 liter VULCAN engine or the 3.0 liter DURATEC engine
Is in between 2 hoses right behind and below the ac compressor
by looking at the engine. if it says duratec it has 24 if not duratec it has 12
On a 1996 Ford Taurus : With engine oil filter change : For the 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine ( 4.5 US. quarts ) For the 3.0 liter " Duratec " V6 engine ( 5.5 US. quarts ) According to the Owner Guide
For a 1996 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 litre " Vulcan " V6 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN ) The 3.0 litre " Duratec " V6 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN to each cylinder head , so there are 2 timing CHAINS )
According to the 1996 Ford Taurus Owner Guide : For the 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine ( BCI group size 58R or the optional 36R ) -------------------------------------------------------- For the 3.0 liter " Duratec " V6 engine ( BCI group size 36R )
On the 1996 Ford Taurus GL : The 3.0 litre " Vulcan " V6 engine is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine ( I believe you could get an optional engine , which was the 3.0 litre " Duratec " V6 engine which is a DOHC design )
If you are swapping the Vulcan OHV engine, it will work without issue. If you are attempting to swap the Duratec DOHC engine, it will bolt in, but the computer will not be capable of running the engine.
