Why do wipers squeak?

There are a number of reasons wiper blades may squeak. Normally, its a sign that they need to be replaced. As rubber gets older and older, it loses its elasticity and becomes more and more rigid which leads to streaks, viberating/chatter and squeaks. In extreme cases, it can be a wiper-arm-related problem, but this is rare.

Depending on your weather/climate, how your vehicle is stored, and driving patterns, wipers will last 3 months to 24 months. Most people change them every 6 months or annually. The first step is buying new wipers and see if that is the problem.

If squeaking is still present after buying mid-grade or maximum performance wipers (not cheapies), then you may want to try a glass treatment product like Aquapel which bonds to the glass and helps the glass remain clean and slippery.
