Often a knock when cold is caused by piston slap, which is pistons rocking in the cylinders until they expand in size when the engine warms up.
bypass the the line that runs into the radiator. witch is a trans oil warmer. reconnect both lines together
Auto-choke is stuck open
start by replacing rad. cap. if that doesnt help you have a blown headgasket.
bad seal/ gasket around fuel injector or intake manifold. as engine warms components expand and form a seal.
Could do any number of things. Not start at all. Start and run fine and take random spells of misfiring. Could start and run fine while it's cold then start running worse as it warms up. You can pull the ICM and take it down to AutoZone where they can test if for free. Have them test it several times until it gets warmed up. A lot of times these won't show being bad until they get hot.
cold start switch on the side of or on top of the throttle body.
Yes. If the choke plate is sitting in there loose if can close by itself which would flood the engine. Also, without the choke you would have a very lean condition during cold start-up until the engine warms up.

First, what have you done maintenance wise? Replaced the Air filter lately? Replaced your PCV breather or PCV valve? Tune up done? Evap system in order? etc..... If you have maintained these things great !!! Then; Most likely, your carburetor is running too rich.... So when starting cold, your enging is running too rich which will cause the sputtering until it warms up.... The 2.8 carburetor has no external adustments to correct this problem so a replacement carburetor or overhaul may be in order to correct this. But if you have not changed your air filter in awhile, you could be starving your jeep of the air it needs to run properly which could also cause the sputtering....
