check the wires to the transfer case, what year/model
Most four-wheel-drive vehicles are controlled by the transfer case. The transfer case has many years in it. A bad year in the transfer case will cause the vehicle not to engage.
when i try to engage the wheel wheel drive it grinds i have my truck in neutral what could be the problem what am i doing wrong
You may need to check your transfer case
It may have the original transfer case that was recalled
The only way to get true 2-wheel drive would be to replace the transfer case.
propellor or drive shafts loose or worn or transfer case loose from tranny or bad frame mounts possible hubs need looking at
The vehicle must first be in neutral, starting from all the way forward high range 4 wheel drive will be one position back
If the four-wheel drive in a Jeep CJ7 won't engage, it could be due to several reasons. Common issues include a malfunctioning transfer case, worn or broken linkage, or low fluid levels. Additionally, problems with the vacuum actuator (in models equipped with it) or a faulty shift lever can prevent engagement. It's best to inspect these components to diagnose the issue accurately.
It depends. Llook at the hubs on your front wheels. Is there a knob in the center of the wheels? If so, then turn this knob to the right and you will have engaged the 4 wheel drive. If you do this; however, make sure you engage the 4 wheel drive inside the truck (if your truck has a 4 wheel drive gear shifter). On other Rangers, you have a knob on the inside of the cab. It should be somewhere on the dash. You can turn it to the right and this will engage the 4 wheel drive. Finally, when you engage the 4WD make sure the engine is cut off, so it doesn't mess up your transfer case.
To disconnect the transfer case and engage 2-wheel drive, first, ensure the vehicle is in park or neutral and turned off for safety. Locate the transfer case lever or switch, which may be on the floor or dashboard, and shift it from 4-wheel drive to 2-wheel drive. In some models, you may need to manually disengage the transfer case by turning a dial or moving a lever. Always refer to your vehicle’s owner manual for specific instructions, as the process can vary by make and model.
you could have a leaky or damaged transfer case.
