biggest problem with Ford starters burning out is caused by a bad battery and prolonged engine turning over if hard to start. if starter has been replaced, your battery may not have correct cranking amps. bare in mind that a hot engine actually takes more cranking amps than a cold engine to start.
Starters can fail over time, or a broken tooth on the flywheel could be causing a bind. If the starter is failing over and over and is an aftermarket type, then it may be necessary to change back to a factory starter replacement.
starter is out, motor is locked up or your starter solenoid is out.

The starter relay is located on the battery side of the engine compartment on a 2002 F150 pick up truck. It is on the firewall close to the battery.
A 1986 Ford F150 starter won't stuff off when the key is turned off if the ignition switch is jammed. This will cause the start signal to be sent to the starter continuously.
Instructions are in the box the starter came with or go to the manufacturers web site. Not a fun job unless you've done them before & have access to wiring diagrams
check your starter or starter relay.
You need to remove the starter and look at the teeth on both parts.
