A fast transmission shift on a 1997 Monte Carlo can be attributed to several factors, including a well-maintained transmission fluid, properly calibrated shift points, and a functioning throttle position sensor. Additionally, performance-enhancing modifications, such as a shift kit or upgraded valve body, can improve shift responsiveness. Proper engine tuning and maintaining optimal RPM levels also contribute to quicker shifts, ensuring the transmission engages smoothly and efficiently.
Assuming this car has an automatic transmission, the neutral safety switch is located on the transmission where the shift linkage attaches.

The shift solenoids are located on the valve body. you can get to it by removing the side cover on the transmission. The side cover is hard to remove. You have to lower the craddle down far enough to get it out. This can be diffucult without it being on a lift but it can be done.
On a 1986 Monte Carlo SS, the backup light switch is typically located on the transmission. It is mounted on the side of the transmission case, near the gear shift lever. This switch activates the backup lights when the transmission is in reverse. If you're having trouble locating it, consulting the vehicle's service manual or a repair guide can provide detailed diagrams and instructions.
