The most likely reason is because of the key switch. The car uses a sensor to read the resistor in the key. As time goes on and the contacts wear out, the security system will think that the proper key is not in the slot and gives off a warning.
Are you experiencing problems with the car not starting once in awhile? Will it start after waiting a few minutes? If you answer yes to the two questions and if when does not start, the starter does not turn, it means that the security system does read the resistor in the key. The proper solution is the replacement of the key switch. The part is fairly in expensive, about $20, but it will cost hundreds to tear into the steering column to replace the switch and then there is the cost of new keys etc.
But the low cost fix for a car that is 12 years old is to wire in a resistor pack which is the same value as in the key so that the security system thinks it is reading it off the key. Cost is a couple bucks at a electrical shop if you can figure out how to do it. Down side is that you bypass the resistance key security. This means that a person with the correct key cut without the resistor can start the car. The positive side is no more special keys that cost a bunch to replace.
You will need a ohm meter to read the resistor on the key. Then Google the factory resistance and error allowed to calculate the resistance pack required. Find the two wire cable coming down the steering column and you are in business.
probably your security system . Search google for "Bypass GM Vats Security"
It should turn off when the key is turned to the 'on' position.
There could be different reasons the security light is coming on in your Chevy Trailblazer. The fuse could have blown or there could be a wiring short.
1999 Chevy lumina, won't start, security light comes on ,can jump the starter but motor will only run for a short time , strong battery ? tried different keys , no good ? help
Coolant level warning light. It is either your coolant warning light, wiper fluid warning light or low tire pressure warning light.
THere should be an ABS warning light that comes on briefly along with all the other indicator lights when you turn the ignition on.
my 97 lumina has the same problem. the user manual says that the security system is not working properly. it will not cause problems, but the system should be checked by a technician. hope this puts you to rest, it did me....:)
Because your bonnet's open!
That's your security alarm light.
If the switch is bad or out of adjustment, then the door ajar light will stay on. The overhead light will not go out, and the security alarm will not set.
when i got into the car to start it it wouldn't even try nothing it had power to everything else and a new battery it just flashed security what can i do to disarm the security system
