In the key there is a small pellet that is a resistor set to a value that the engine management computer is looking for. If the pellet is dirty or wet the car will not start. Clean the key with WD40 or alcohol and dry it well. Then try to start the car. If no good spray the key lock where the pellet contacts are with Radio shack tuner cleaner (or electrical contact cleaner) if still no go contact a GM dealer for repairs.
