Also, when it does finally shift the speed is anywhere between 35-45
my 98 vw jetta atuo shifts hard in first but fine in 2,3
Consistent ET's, no missed shifts, no human error, no shifting, no clutch replacements & can be made just as fast.
Automatic and Manual gearboxes are essentially the same, except that the driver does the shifting for a manual gearbox(my personal preference), and a computer shifts for an automatic gearbox.
A car with an automatic transmission shifts itself from 1st to 2nd to 3rd when you accelerate. You don't need to shift it...that's why they call it automatic.
Normally, the automatic gear shifts from one 'size' to another. In a Prosmatec transmission, there is a sort of 'cone' of gears, which shifts 'progressively' from a higher to a lower gear (and vice versa). So generally, the shifting is comparitively more 'smoother'.
The Stratus does not have the 3.3L. Any shifting complaint diagnostics should start with fluid level and computer trouble codes.
The purpose of the automatic transmission is that is shifts for you. You'll want to lock your transmission into your ideal gear for going up and down steep inclines to prevent it from downshifting, but, other than that, you typically let the computer do the shifting for you.
if you take the transmission pan off you will see there are what is called shift solenoid, (they have wires hooked to them) replace them and that should take care of the problem. sometimes they stick causing a delay in shifting. thanks
It shifts to the left
Are you sure that it's third it's not shifting into, and not fourth? The transmission is designed to not permit shifts into fourth (overdrive) until the engine and transmission have warmed up a bit.
yes there is
You may want to check the performance aftermarket like Jegs.com or Summitracing.com to see if someone makes a manual valve body for your trans. If you just want more solid shifts I suggest a shift improver kit, that way you retain automatic shifting and it's easier on the drivetrain.
