This is because air is constantly flowing through the radiator therefore cooling it the hose will normally be hot or warm.
The right is a the supply hose into the engine. Thecoolantis coldercoming fromthe radiator. The left hose is the return hose to the radiator, after the coolanthas gone through the engine, which reheated the coolant.
clogged radiator or bad water pump
what if my top radiator hose is very hot and the bottom hose is cold, would that be a bad water pump?
Engines return hot coolant to the radiator through top hose, and cooled coolant goes back to the engine through the bottom hose, so a difference in temperature between the two would not be unusual. Assuming you have allowed the engine to come up to temperature and the bottom hose is stone cold, either the radiator or bottom hose is blocked, the water pump has failed or there is an air lock. A seized viscous coupling on a cooling fan or a permanently running electric fan can also make the radiator over-cool, but the bottom hose would feel slightly cooler than the top hose, not cold.
Replace your thermostat.
"No heat coming out, temperature gauge buried at cold." Uhhhh...no. #1. Run the car till it gets to operating temperature (or warms up at all). #2. Check radiator hoses. a. top hose hot b. bottom hose WARM but not HOT or COLD...just warm. Cooler than top but not cold. If bottom hose is COLD, get a new thermostat or flush radiator, OR BOTH! If bottom hose is as hot as top...GET A NEW THERMOSTAT! My thermo was bad and the car NEVER overheated and temp gauge ALWAYS showed normal.
You do not have one. Disconect the lower radiator hose. (after cold)
It could be the thermostat. Open up the radiator cap when it is hot and see if the water is flowing in the radiator. If it is not then it may be a thermostat.
hi i have a ford focus 1.6 2000 and it keeps overheating I've removed the thermostat but the problem continues the expansion bottle bubbles and the top radiator hose were the thermostat is attached gets really hot but the bottom hose were the water pump is connected to is cold' i don't know if the water pump is working or not as there is no rattles or noises coming from it can anybody help please thanx
broken thermostat; blocked hose to radiator or hole in hose; leak in radiator; etc..
Do it when the car is cold if the radiator is hot fluid may be forced out when you take off the cap.
The inlet to the radiator. Hot water from the engine goes in to be cooled.
