Look under the dash where the brake pedal is located. You have to go upside down and head first to get a good view. Follow the the brake pedal arm, find the pressure switch. The brake light is off when brake pedal is not engage, pressing on the switch. When you depress on the brake, it releases the pressure and the brake light comes on. You can adjust the switch to move it closer or farther from the brake pedal arm. On the brake pedal arm there is a plastic contact point which sometimes cracks or breaks off. I used a "license plate" decorative plastic screw cover as the contact point to press on the switch. It was cheap and comes as a pair so you have another one in case the same thing happens in the future.
It is self-adjusting, normally.
There is no such part on a Mercury Villager.
The 1995 Mercury Villager turn signal relay switch is located beneath the drivers side dashboard. The turn signal relay switch will be left of the brake pedal.
Stop light switches are mounted on the brake pedal lever, typically.
yes!
I have a 98 Villager and I had the same problem. I found that the brake light switch at the brake pedal needed adjusting. Just loosen the lock nut and adjust the switch so that the brake lights do not stay on but only come on when the brakes are applied, then tighten the locknut. Worked for me. Hope this helps.
Yes, it should fit.
