could be a rusted out tranny line or a disconected vacumm line.. or possibly the madulator valve went out.. or even more possibly your tranny is shot.. i would try looking at all the lines and if they are all intact try replacing the modulator valve which will cost less than 15 dollars at any auto parts store.. and if all that didnt help it to shift i would scrap it or find another cavalier with the same engine size and do a complete transmission replacement..
You can check your automatic transmission fluid in your 1992 Chevy Cavalier with the transmission dipstick. The dipstick will have marks that indicate whether it is full or low one quart.
