It sounds like the transmission shifter linkage is disconnected.
Because your transmission cable is broken and it must be broken near the transmission end You have to See your mechanic in transmission to replace it
i would look under neath at the transmition and see if the linkage is broke
It may be a broken or damage steering column. It may need to be replaced.
you must stop the car to switch from/to drive, park, reverse. no, you don't have to switch from 1st, to 2nd, to 3rd. that's what's automatic no, you dont have to stop to change between all forward gears ie 1 st 2 nd 3 ed 4 th all that is done automatically, you dont even have to think about it. no need to stop when manually shifting gears(ie racing your automatic) if you like to choose when you automatic changes from 1st to 2nd to D to OD you can, usually you can up shift from 1st to 2nd to D to OD by just pushing the sifter to the next gear but not OD to D to 2nd to 1st because of detents in the shifter will catch the shifter, unless you press the button or pull back the column shifter and down shift. last gear(D)to netural(N) you usually can freely move back and forth. just dont try to push the button and go into R (for race) while your driving it will destroy you transmission and put you in the ditch or on comming trafic. dont go from D to 1 or you will probably red line your engine and blow it!!!
1. Lift the shift tower cover off the center console 2. at the passenger side of the shifter & down into the center console there will be a mechanism with a small plastic arm pointing at a metal pin. 3. Swing the small plastic arm so it is no longer pointing at the pin & press the shifter button. You should now be able to freely move the shifter as normal. If you place the shifter in park again, you may have to rotate the plastic arm again if you need to select a different gear again.
your battery is dead
You may want to check your shifter cables to see if they are operating correctly. Turn on the igniton(but DO NOT start) and have someone shift the car, You'll need to have the hood open and watch the shift lever on top of the trans-axle. If it moves while your helper shifts then you might need to get your transaxle rebuilt if it barely moves or doesn't move at all then you need to replace the cables.
Hey, what's up. What you can do is with you drive axles removed, put your transmission in neutral and spin the output shaft of your transmission. The shaft should move freely. Now put it in gear and it should not move freely. Have somebody push the clutch pedal in to disengage the transmission. Now spin the output shaft. If it spins freely, your good.
Rolls freely in neutral? Bad transmission?
undo the hub nut in centre of wheel it is very tight so a long bar required. Undo the balljoint so the the strut can move freely and then just pull on the hub and the shaft will pop out of the transmission depending on the shaft you will have to undo the bearing carrier but this is on the long shaft not the short one.
The difference between the two is emotions can get the better of you and even tears may flow freely.
that is a vent hose. it hangs freely. does not connect to anything.
