It's between the engine and transmission. The only way to disconnect it from the crankshaft is to remove either the engine or transmission... or both.
As long as The Engine is The same that the trasmission was on before then yes it will work.

s-10s were not produced till 1982. It is probably a C10 and it's all about the condition, the engine, the transmission, the wheel base, the bed style and the original factory accessories, need more info.
