Most commonly would be lack of freon.
Yes.
Low refrigerant? Blown fuse? Bad compressor?
Two things that come to mind are possibly low on Freon or a bad compressor. Maybe someone else has more ideas.
It would be bypassed by the mode door in the ducting under the dash. You may have have a problem with your mode door if your compressor is turning on when you select A/C. If the compressor clutch does not engage it is likely that there is an insufficient charge in the system, and you may have a leak.
A bad fuse would not allow a/c clutch to pull in (turning on compressor) A bad fuse may cause blower fan not to work not allowing a/c to start
It sounds like your compressor was killed. What more than likely happend is that your airbag got a hole or crack in it causing the compressor to work overtime. I would recommend a conversion kit. This is a permanent fix to suspension problems. Try Strutmasters.com that is where I did my conversion about 5 years ago and have been very happy ever since. Good Luck
The air conditioning belt only runs the compressor. You do not need that belt if the ad is inoperative.
the a/c system has a pressure sensor to it, it's on the accumilator @ the rear of the eng compartment. try using a wire to jump it if the a/c works after that tere is your prob
