It turned out the coupling for the trailer lights was all corroded. It didn't work to just clean it, we had to entirely disconnect it. Works fine now.
Most brake light switches ratchet into position and self-adjust. To reset the adjustment, press the brake pedal part way down & pull the switch out toward the pedal until it clicks several times.
My 1992 Honda Accord Brake Lamp came on several times after I had the Master Cylinder replaced. Turns out the fluid had gotten low. Once I refilled the fluid level, the light stopped coming on.
Your brake light switch is out of adjustment. Don't know what vehicle you have but most brake light switches are located on the brake peddle lever just above the brake peddle pad.
I don't know the why, but just spray the connection with electrical cleaner. I had this same problem w/right brake light on my '98. I had to clean the connection several times in a couple of years, then it stopped. Haven't had a problem with it in years now.
It is possible that one of the bulbs is shorting out. Try replacing the brake light bulbs, if that doesn't work, troubleshoot the brake light switch.
most times if brake lights are stuck on you have a bad brake light switch on pedal under dash
Probably because of a BAD ground. If you have 12 Volts to the light, then the light isn't grounded properly. yes sir bad ground
There is a brake light switch on the back side of the brake pedal some times they stick with wear inspect that first.
It could be the turn signal switch.
The brake light fuse could be open,in that case you may have a short some where. The brake light switch or wiring could be defective. Some times when an autostart is wired in to the brake light switch the wire is weakened and breaks. The brake light switch operates a small solenoid which disengages a latch to allow the shift lever to be moved. Hope this helps
As this is an intermittant problem it is more than likely the brake light switch is sticking at times..
If the e-brake light, and tone, randomly come on while driving - pull the release handle. The location of the pedal make it incredibly easy to accidentally depress it while entering or exiting the vehicle (i've done it more times than I can count). That should solve your issue. If it doesn't, try fully depressing and releasing the emergency brake pedal several times - that should help reset the position switch and stop the erroneous indications.
