Yes, a LQ9 engine paired with a 4L80E transmission can be adapted to fit your 1998 K1500, provided that the transfer case is also compatible with the 4L80E. The K1500 typically uses a transfer case that can work with this transmission, but you may need to use an adapter or ensure that the necessary mounts and connections are properly aligned. It's also advisable to check for any additional modifications needed for wiring and driveline components.
If it is a k1500, most likely it has the 4L60E transmission.

1/2 tons have the 4L60E in them. 3/4 tons have the 4L80E in them.
It's a 4L80E, I have the same truck. The 4L60E was not in the "K" 1500 NEW ANSWER: Your truch has the 4L60E in it because it is a 1/2 ton. They put the 4L80E transmissions in the 3/4 tons and heaver trucks. NOT 1/2 TONS.
That would be the 4L60E automatic transmission. The 3/4 Tons used the 4L80E trans.

No you can not. The 98 computer is not programed to shift the 89 transmission. Besides that your wiring harness on the 98 will not hook up to the 89 trans. You need to go back with the factory 4L80E trans. That belongs in the 98.
