For any of you who may have been watching this question, I'll give you the answer myself. The answer is YES. After purchasing the one with the factory tach and installing it, everything works like it should.
E-Bay Salvage Yard
Hi, Typically a speedometer is a non-repairable item. You can remove the instrument cluster and take it apart and see if you can play with it and you might be rewarded for your efforts, but...? The speedometer cable might be disconnected at one end or the other or the cable might have broken then it's a replacement that will be needed. When you remove the cable, jkust spin it and see if turns, also see if the speedometer sill move when you have the instrument cluster out. If the speedometer is in fact broken, then your best bet is to try a local salvage yard, we used to cal them junk yards, and see if they have a Tracker that is the same as yours and buy an instrument cluster from them also check E-Bay. You should be successful with one of those solutions. Please get back and let us know more information if you need more help. Good luck and I hope this is of help to you. Steve H.
Answeryou probably need to replace the float or sending unit. which means taking the tank out. It"s more than likely that your instrument cluster needs replacing. This happened to me, bought one at salvage yard for $55.00. If one component on dash stops working i.e-gas gauge temp. gauge speedometer, the whole cluster needs replaced.
This is a common issue with Lexus, mainly with the older LS400's. Basically, the instrument cluster needs to be replaced, this can only be done through Lexus. A new cluster to be installed including labor will run anywhere from $750 - $1000. If you can find an instrument cluster at a salvage yard, Lexus will send it off to match the mileage from the original cluster, then install it for 2 - 3 hours of labor cost.
What is not working about the speedometer cluster? Wrangler speedometer clusters use LED lights and the speedometer is electronically powered, no mechanical cable. Replace cluster if reason for speedometer not working is in the cluster. Check to see if speed sensor is bad before replacing cluster. On wranglers, mileage on salvage clusters may not matter because the computer on the wrangler stores mileage and mileage normally reverts back to mileage in computer. Replacing cluster requires a two out of five level of knowledge. Short 3 to 4 inch and long Philips screw driver and patience is all that should be needed to do the job. After removing screws, be careful not to break clips on molding that help hold cluster in place. Do not attempt to replace LED lights, if this is the problem. Ebay has these clusters for around $85 plus shipping of approximately $15. Hope this answer helps.
The only place you could get just the needle is a salvage yard.
There is a problem in the cluster. I would obtain a good used gauge cluster from a salvage yard , they are easy to replace. The only tools you need are a Phillips screwdriver, and a 7mm socket and ratchet. Once the dash plastic is off the unit just plugs in. But of course, check your fuses first right?
If you either get no rpm or its erratic, then change the Instrument cluster as one unit. RPM cannot be fixed or changed. You either have to buy a used unit from a junk yard or buy the cluster new at the dealer. Its expansive, I would buy a used one from a salvage yard for around $75-150. Good luck. I have 15+ years as an automotive technican. Trust me.
To find an instrument cluster for a Ford Windstar, start by checking local auto parts stores or online retailers like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, or RockAuto. You can also search for used or refurbished clusters on websites like eBay or Craigslist. For a more specific fit, consider visiting a Ford dealership or a specialized salvage yard that focuses on Ford parts. Make sure to have your vehicle's year, model, and VIN handy to ensure compatibility.
First you must determine if the problem is with the speedometer cable or the speedometer itself.*What I did recently was to remove the instrument cluster out of the dash. This can be done without removing the entire dashboard. Remove the 4 screws that hold in black plastic bezel (part in front of speedo) and remove. You may have to also remove the plastic shroud/cover on the steering wheel to have enough clearance. You should now see the speedo cluster and it also has 4 screws to remove. You may want to then PUSH the speedo cable into the car from the engine side so you will have enough play to pull the cluster inside towards you. The cable is held in place with a plastic end piece. Depress the lever on this and the cable should be removeable.**Now, with the bare end of the cable hanging out of the dash board, either start engine and drive a few FEET or have a friend push it a little just so you can observe if the cable itself is rotating or not. IF it DOES rotate then you have a bad speedometer. IF it DOES NOT rotate (spin) then you probably have a broken/bad speedometer cable. You can replace the speedometer from a junk yard or Ebay ($20-$50). Cable is held in to tranny by one screw and also replaced at salvage yard or Ebay. Gears on engine end of cable must match new cable or be transferred to new cable or speeds indicated will be off a bit.Hope this helps.Rasdebol
it should as the cars were pretty much identical, contact a salvage yard as they have the interchange manuals and can answer this better
