It is possible that your TV cable is adjusted incorrectly. If the cable is adjusted too tight, it can cause a hard downshift. It would also probably cause late and hard upshifts. It's unlikely this condition would "just happen" one day, but if you've done something that could have disturbed the cable, it's a possibility.
My 1984 corvette transmission is not shifting into overdrive. It shifts first thru third fine.
Are you sure that it's third it's not shifting into, and not fourth? The transmission is designed to not permit shifts into fourth (overdrive) until the engine and transmission have warmed up a bit.
If your transmission is not shifting into third gear and overdrive it could be a parking pawl. This prevents the transmission from rotating.
If this is an automatic transmission, which I am assuming it is it will not work the same as a standard. Only drive it in overdrive or 1st gear.
Could be low fluid,a bad sensor or transmission going bad.
check fluid level, if good, will need pro evaluation
The LS has a five speed transmission. Therefore it shifts from first to second, second to third, third to fourth and fourth to fifth. Four shifts.
Generally speaking, overdrive (O/D) is the highest gear in the transmission. On most cars the automatic transmission has 3 speeds and Overdrive (forth speed). Overdrive allows the engine to have less rpm with higher speed in order to have better fuel efficiency. When you switch it on, you allow the transmission to shift into overdrive mode after the certain speed is reached (usually 30 - 40 mph depending on the load). When it's off, you limit transmission shifting by third speed. In normal driving condition the overdrive should be always on.You may need to switch it off when driving in mountainous area or towing a trailer.[The automatic transmission automatically shifts from OD to the 3-th gear when it feel more load. When it feels less load it shifts back to the O/D, but under certain conditions, e.g: driving uphill or towing a trailer, the transmission can not decide to stay in OD or to shift into 3-th speed and it starts to shift back and forth. That's the time you may switch it off and help the transmission to decide.] .You also may need to switch it off when you want to slowdown using the engine braking, for example, driving downhill. [For more details, check your owner's manual]
Is there a button to activate the overdrive on the transmission. If the button is activated and not in overdrive mode the car will never shift into 4th gear.
The reason your OD lite blinks and stays on means that your transmission control module has detected a problem such as a possible slipping clutch during a shift point you will need to have the vehicle scanned for codes and further repair
That car is equipped with a 4R70W electronic automatic transmission through the 2005 model year, and the Overdrive OFF switch is on the end of the shift lever. Push it in to disable Overdrive, and again to re-enable Overdrive. This feature is typically only used when towing or in very hilly or mountainous terrain that would cause the transmission to "hunt" between Third and Fourth gear a lot.
The transmission was not hooked up right... OR the motor was from ANOTHER Year/model of Honda and it came with the transmission from THAT Year/model. The replacement transmission does not have overdrive so it could not be hooked up electrically or otherwise -- so the light is always on AND the transmission model is only a "2 speed" instead of a "3 speed" transmission or the transmission is not hooked up correctly. Sorry can't be more specific.
