On April 19, 1775 in the colonial town of Lexington the first shot was fired. Seventy-seven of the men waited on the town green for the British. No one knows who fired the first shot, but before the British moved on to Concord several colonists were dead and houses burned.
The colonists tried to protect a military depot they had established at Concord and hide John Hancock and Samuel Adams who were staying there.

Colonel Benedict Arnold captured a supply of weapons at Fort Ticonderoga in May 1775. The fort, located on the shores of Lake Champlain in New York, was held by the British and contained valuable artillery and ammunition. Arnold, along with Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, successfully seized the fort, providing crucial supplies for the American Revolutionary War effort.
Colonel Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys captured the British weapons at Fort Ticonderoga during the American Revolutionary War. Colonel Henry Knox then transported the captured cannons to Boston on sledges, where they were subsequently used to fortify Dorchester Heights and force the British to evacuate the city.
Their army was smaller in size and the British had better weapons. However, the colonists were united and had good generals and commanders such as George Washington and Colonel Prescott. Both sides, the Patriots and Loyalists, had disadvantages of their own.
