One popular explanation is that the "Living room" came about after the custom of displaying the bodies of the deceased in the parlor was discontinued and a new name for this room (as opposed to the "family room") was created to distinguish it from that former custom as a room for the living only.
Absolutely! The family dynamic has changed dramatically with the shift in society. More mothers are working, husbands and dads are staying home, children are back to living longer at home and there are many blended families.
No -- Garfield's family was not at all rich when he was a boy since he father died when he was 18 months old and his mother had to support the family as best she could. However, he got a good education and had a successful career as a teacher, lawyer, US Congressman and major general during the Civil War, so he made a comfortable living for his wife and himself and their family.
Yes- the head of a Roman Household was the Father of the House, known in Latin as the Paterfamilias. He was usually the husband and father, though the role could be taken by a grandfather, uncle, older brother or other older relative (or on occasions, a guardian whose position was sanctioned by Roman law). The Paterfamilias had responsibility for the upbringing of children, the family's pastoral and emotional welfare, the practicalities of running the household, and the finances & economy of the home. He was also expected to settle internal family disputes, and to keep an eye on the family's medical welfare. This responsibility extended to any servants or slaves that were employed, and also to any tenants or lodgers.
In 1790, the average household size in the United States was approximately 5.4 individuals. This figure reflects the common family structure of the time, which typically included extended family members and often multiple generations living under one roof. The size of households was influenced by factors such as agrarian lifestyles, high birth rates, and lower life expectancies.
Yes. I was reading up on my genealogy and found this. I am living in Texas and I am extended family of Bonnie Parker. My great grandfather was Mark Parker. Bonnie Parker is also related to Cynthia Anne Parker, mother of the last Comanche war chief Quanta Parker. I didn't believe it myself but looking at the pictures of Cynthia and Bonnie up to my grandmother and mother I can see the resemblance.
