We bought Alaska for 7.2 Million, which Alaska provided us with oil, timber, and minerals. We annexed Hawaii which we built a naval base their called Pearl Harbor. We also received Guam and Puerto Rico after the Spanish-American War. So during the imperial era we gained territories, resources and more.
