Imperialism By: Tyler Cresta One reason we went through an imperialistic era is because we had a thirst for new markets. We bought Alaska for 7.2 Million, which Alaska provided us with oil, timber, and minerals. We annexed Hawaii which we built a naval base their called Pearl Harbor. We also received Guam and Puerto Rico after the Spanish-American War. So during the imperial era we gained territories, resources and more.

Social Darwinism which was an idea similar to survival of the fittest except applied to humans. Imperialism would promote economic growth. Imperialism would establish more markets to sell goods. It was needed for national security. Many people in European countries also felt it was their duty to civilize the peoples of the world who did not have the "luxury" of Western civilization.
