There was a group of English people who didn't like England's form of government. King George forced everyone to be Catholic and to go to the same church and pay high taxes. So this group of people boarded a ship called the Mayflower and sailed off in search of the New World. It was a long journey and many people died, but when they got to America, they were really happy. The problem was, they had no food or a way to protect themselves from the harsh winter. The local Indians helped them, though. Later, as America was beginning to form, we imported stuff from England like tea. King George was still forcing high taxes upon the Americans for the tea, though, and we didn't like it. (Read about the Boston Tea Party.) Revolutionaries like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, and on July 4, 1776, the United States was born.
