Most of the people are or were peasants. Peasants do the work, maintain the population, fight the wars and keep the economy running.
The way George Washington primarily effected the united states was acually at the end of his second term, when he displayed that a peaceful change of power from one president to the next was possible. In his farewell address, he emphasized that we should stay out of wars in Europe, and that it is not our place to fight wars there.
George Washington was in two wars. The French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. He was only a field grade officer during the French and Indian War. He tried to become an officer in the British Army. However, he got denied. Then when America started to pull away from Britian, George Washington declared his alligence to America and its cause. The people declared him the commanding general of the Continental Army. He then went on to fight and lead the army in the Revolutionary War.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horatio_Gates Wikipedia gives a detailed description of the wars won and lost. However he took credit for the American victory at the Battle of Saratoga (Benedict Arnold, who led the attack, was finally forced from the field when he was shot in the leg)[1] and was blamed for the defeat at the Battle of Camden.

Veterans are soldiers that made it through wars...how old are you and who the hell let you on the computer? Furthermore, who let you out of your cage?!
All veterans of all wars are honored on US Veteran's Day.
Commanders in Chiefs had to fight LIMITED WARS in the age of atomic weapons. Gone were the days of declared TOTAL WARS.
Veterans were started by Wars.
Veterans are reclassified upon discharge from the service. They are classified as "veterans." Only in extreme cases can veterans be recalled to active duty. Most veterans would gladly serve their country again, it would bring back friendships, adventures, and travelling memories.
To celebrate all the Veterans that died in the wars and how all Veterans served for their country.
