High unemployment will mean that there are more people without work. When people sit around all day with nothing to do, they are more likely to turn to crime. Thus high unemployment coule lead to more crime, especially if it is persistently high.
High unemployment can also lead to a change in government. Unemployed people are likely to vote out the incumbent politician (he/she has not been able to find them jobs), and are likely to vote for anyone who says "I will create jobs". A populist could exploit such feelings to get elected, and then use elected office to undermine democratic institutions (this is like what Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela).
In short, political stability means a long-term consistency of government. Laws remain unchanged, there are scheduled elections resulting in a peaceful transition of power. While political stability can be achieved and maintained by force of arms (Nazi Germany, USSR under Stalin, or China under Mao Tse Tung), that sort of stability is artificial, and typically disappears when the dictator is deposed, killed, or dies.

Nativists believed that immigrants posed a threat to the cultural, economic, and political stability of the nation. They often viewed newcomers as undesirable, associating them with crime, unemployment, and the dilution of national identity. Nativism was rooted in a desire to protect the interests of native-born citizens and often led to the promotion of restrictive immigration policies. This sentiment was particularly strong during periods of significant immigration waves, reflecting fears of social change and competition for jobs.
Let's start by defining what is meant by "political stability". A country, usually resource rich, that is under a dictatorship, installed and funded by the western world, where no democratic process exists, and people live in perpetual fear, is called political stability. Another country, also resource rich, with free and fair elections, with several parties(not one) and where people expect control over their resourses, in other words, a healthy, functioning democracy , such as Venezuela. This is always called "political instability" in western propaganda. Margaret Thatcher once said to her murderous buddy Pinochet- "It was you who brought democracy to Chile."
Americans wanted Gerald Ford to address the economic challenges facing the country during his presidency, particularly inflation and unemployment, which were exacerbated by the aftermath of the Vietnam War and the 1973 oil crisis. In addition, there was a strong desire for political stability and healing following the Watergate scandal, which had eroded public trust in government. Ford's efforts to restore confidence and manage the economy were critical issues during his time in office.
