George Washington (1832-1899) is known in the US as the "Father of Our Country".
Washington led the Continental Army as a general in the American Revolution. Afterward he served as president of the Constitutional Convention that established the new system of federal government. Finally, he was elected the first President of the United States. As President, he oversaw the building of the new national capital that today bears his name, Washington, DC.
Before his presidency, George Washington could of been influenced greatly by the death of his father when he was 11 or by never getting the same level of education as his half brothers
