It is not just the Senate that has power over the President, but Congress as a whole. Congress, which is consisted of the Senate and House of Representatives is part of a system known as "Checks and Balances." This system is made to "watch over" the other 2 branches of our Government. The Executive Branch is the President and his Cabinet. The President checks Congress by approving or vetoing any bills he sees unfit. He can also suggest bills that be made into laws. He also checks the Judicial branch by appointing and firing the Supreme Court Justices. The Legislative Branch is Congress. Congress can check the power of the President by having the power to overturn a veto with 2/3 majority vote of both the House and Senate. Congress holds the power to impeach the President. The Legislative Branch is also the Branch that makes the laws and puts them into effect. The Judicial Branch is the Supreme Court. This Branch is the system responsible for defending and upholding current laws.
