Jean-Jacques Rousseau is widely considered the father of social justice and liberal sensibilites. He opposed the aristocratic rich and sided with the commoners; he strongly disagreed with the monarchist system in France and his philosophy and writings were the basis for the French Revolution. The Crown of France was right-wing, and the revolutionairies were left-wing. Similar to the modern debate of right wing = rich and left-wing = working class.

He was like the Bertrand Russell of his day.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) wrote extensively on personal freedom and the rights of man, so in today's terminology, he would be considered liberal, or perhaps left-wing. His works were very popular in France, where they were said to have led to the French Revolution, in which the French monarchy was overthrown.

What political party is right wing?

The primary political party in the United States associated with the "right-wing" is the Republican Party. In the UK, The National Front, is probably the most right wing of the political parties. In the United States, currently, the Republican party is the most conservative or right-wing. It should be noted that there are still some individual Republicans who would be considered moderate, but most scholars (including conservative scholars) have noted that the party as a whole has moved much more to the right in the past several decades. In many other countries, right-wing political parties can be a factor in politics; for example in France, the National Front has long been known for its harsh rhetoric and its strong anti-immigrant stands. While sometimes, extreme right-wing parties get some votes and provide an outlet for populist anger, such parties generally lack the support of the majority of people, appealing only to a small core group of followers.
