There wasn't an executive branch in the colonies. The king was the head of the government and colonies. He felt he OWNED the colonies. The executive branch didn't exist until the constitution was written in 1787.
In several ways. Firstly, church lands were nationalized, as per the revolutionary ideals of separation of church and state. The lands were then sold. The revolutionary government attempted to expand their control over the economy by selling government bonds, which eventually replaced the national currency.
