The pros of the 14th amendment are that they gave the same rights to all people. This has given many people the ability to gain education and jobs that were previously impossible.

The cons are now that the federal government has become involved in entirely too many issues. At one time in Catholic Schools, a Nun would walk around a class room of 70 students. If one misbehaved she would rap on his knuckles with her ruler. Today that would be a Federal Offense. As a result teachers can not handle a class of 15 students. Affirmative Action has removed male role models from teaching school so that black boys of the ghetto living in a matriarchy get their male role models from older gang leaders. As a result black men fill prisons.

The main point of the 14th is to confirm citizenship to all people who were at that time presently living in the United States. It ensured citizenship to mostly freed slaves in the southern states.

The 14th also ensured a more equal representation for all people in all the states.

THE CON: the simple phrase "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof," May be the most misunderstood and misinterpreted phrase in the Constitution. It may have been originally directed toward children of foreign parents, such as diplomats who were here temporarily in their official titles as foreigners, and it was presumed their children born here were actually citizens of their home countries because they were actually "under the jurisdiction," of their home country. The crux is whether illegals who come across the border and have a child here is that child actually an American citizen or not because their parent is a foreign citizen who is under the jurisdiction of their home country? I believe this needs to be amended to finally clarify this confusion by the courts and the Legislature
