Well for starters the creation of the current Constitution was done so illegally since it was to replace the Articles of Confederation which held the colonies together during the Revolution, so the colonies had to agree with the Constitution to become states. Next was the problem of not having any means to defend themselves from Natives on the frontier or from foreign entities since any money they had was now worthless and much of army and navy had been split up. Also they new country had to pay back their French and Spanish allies, which would be difficult since they had no money. And with distension in the country, things didn't look too good.
