They enlisted in great numbers. & in many examples got dropped in it from a great height by poor (British) generalship: Gallipoli, Crete, Tobruk, Singapore, Dieppe....... but nonetheless the Anzacs, Canadians, Indians, South Africans and all others gave sterling service in Britains dark days. And all because of some (distant) shared ancestry. Amazing. I am British, I feel it says something about my national character that these people in the past did what they did for the reasons that they did, and I admit it makes me proud. Thankyou my Commonwealth pals, past & present. We will remember them.

The British Empire helped the Allies in WWII by, of course fighting, liberating, and expanding the rule and conquerings of the Allied powers... WWI, the Brits helped out by using trench warfare to both surprise and sustain the German forces.
